If you give a gracious word and give forgiveness in honesty, then that is better than a present given in dishonourableness intended to bring reconciliation; a good word and a respectfully presented forgiveness are
given in honesty, but a present is commonplace (impersonal) and valueless without a word of kindheartedness
and forgiveness; because no matter how excessive (expensive/precious) the present may be, it is nevertheless
no more than a honourless giving of alms for false reconciliation; a true and good word and honourable forgiveness are evidence of forbearance and one's own contentment (modesty) as well as of peaceableness; an
unhonest present for reconciliation gives rise to contempt (insult/outrage), both in the one who gives it and in
the one who takes it, with enmity and hatred originating therefrom. |

Gebt ihr ein gütiges Wort und schenkt ihr in Ehrlichkeit Verzeihung, dann ist das besser als ein
Geschenk in Unehrenhaftigkeit, das Versöhnung bringen soll; ein gutes Wort und eine in Ehrfurcht dargebrachte Verzeihung werden gegeben in Ehrlichkeit, doch ein Geschenk ist gewöhnlich (unpersönlich) und wertlos ohne Wort der Güte und Verzeihung; denn mag das Geschenk
noch so übertrieben (teuer/kostbar) sein, so ist es doch nicht mehr als ein ehrloses Almosen zur
falschen Versöhnung; ein wahres und gutes Wort und ehrenhafte Verzeihung zeugen von Langmut und eigener Genügsamkeit (Bescheidenheit), wie auch von Friedfertigkeit; ein unehrliches
Geschenk zur Versöhnung löst Ungebühr (Beleidigung/Frevel) aus, sowohl bei dem, der es gibt,
wie auch bei dem, der es nimmt, wodurch Feindschaft und Hass entstehen. |
