It is only your stinginess and your foolishness that warn you against poverty and command you to do shameful
things if you sadden and torment yourselves about alms and good gifts that you shall give; be rightfully frugal
(modest) and do not hoard goods and chattels and possessions and wealth for the sake of might, but do it for
the sake of right, in order to help the needy who require your assistance, alms and good things. |

Es sind nur euer Geiz und eure Dummheit, die euch vor Armut warnen und euch Schändliches
befehlen, wenn ihr euch betrübt und quält um Almosen und gute Gaben, die ihr geben sollt;
seid des Rechtens genügsam (bescheiden) und hortet nicht Hab und Gut und Besitz und Reichtum um der Macht willen, sondern tut es um des Rechtes willen, um damit den Bedürftigen zu
helfen, die eurer Hilfe bedürfen, der Almosen und der guten Dinge. |

Also be respectful to the poor and needy, and give them alms and good things in right measure according to
your wealth and possessions, and when doing so consider that you will not be able to take one thing to the
realm of the invisible (other world/death-life) from all that which you have gathered together in terms of goods
and chattels and possessions and wealth, because there are no pockets in which you could take anything with you. |

Seid achtungsvoll auch zu den Armen und Bedürftigen, und gebt ihnen Almosen und Gutes in
rechtem Masse nach eurem Reichtum und Besitz, und bedenkt dabei, dass ihr ins Reich des
Unsichtbaren (Jenseits/Todesleben) nichts von all dem mitnehmen könnt, was ihr an Hab und
Gut und Besitz und Reichtum zusammengetragen habt, denn es gibt keine Taschen, in denen
ihr etwas mitnehmen könntet. |
