Truly, you will never be called to account for your good thoughts and deeds and works, but even one imprudent word can create hostility and hatred; and false vows (false oaths) bring you defilement and punishment,
because if you have sworn falsely (sworn a false oath) with intent (deliberately) then you will be called to
account; and if you swear an oath in righteousness (conscientiousness) for something, then keep the vow and
give it fulfilment so that you give a sign (set an example) through your own honour and amongst people of
your kind (fellow human beings), and so that you yourselves may be thankful; and truly, a vow shall never be
broken, just as a pledge (promise) shall never be broken, because it is a word of honour, and whoever breaks
the same casts themselves into defilement, into dishonour and disrepute (discredit). |

Wahrlich, nie werdet ihr zur Rechenschaft gezogen für eure guten Gedanken und Taten und
Werke, doch schon ein unbedachtes Wort kann Feindschaft und Hass erzeugen; und falsche
Schwüre (Meineid) tragen euch Schande und Ahndung ein, denn habt ihr mit Bedacht (bewusst)
falsch geschworen (meineidig), werdet ihr zur Rechenschaft gezogen; und schwört ihr in Rechtschaffenheit (Gewissenhaftigkeit) für eine Sache, dann haltet den Schwur und gebt ihm Erfüllung,
so ihr ein Zeichen (Beweis) bei eurer eigenen Ehre und bei Euresgleichen (Mitmenschen) gebt
(setzt) und ihr euch selbst dankbar sein könnt; und wahrlich, nie soll ein Schwur gebrochen
werden, wie auch nie ein Gelübde (Versprechen), denn es ist ein Wort der Ehre (Ehrenwort), und
wer solches bricht, stürzt sich selbst in Schande, in Unehre und Ächtung (Verruf). |
